Georgia books its place in EHF EURO 2028 qualification

Georgia produced one of its finest performances in years on Sunday night, overpowering their opponents in front of a sold-out Sports Palace in Tbilisi to book a place in the next round of EHF EURO 2028 qualification.

Backed by a raucous home crowd, the hosts led from the eighth minute and never relinquished control. The victory marks the first time in a decade that Georgia has advanced from this stage of a major continental qualification campaign.

A defensive masterclass

The foundation was a disciplined 6-0 defensive block that frustrated the visitors throughout. Goalkeeper Levan Maisuradze finished with 14 saves, several of them at pivotal moments in the second half.

“This team has grown up. We defended for each other and we believed until the final whistle,” said head coach Zurab Tskhadadze.

Attention now turns to the draw for the next round, which takes place next month.
